Introduction
------------

WebUtils is an interface between AWeb WWW Browser and the network utilities
Ping, Lookup, Traceroute, Finger, Netstat and (optionally) to PPP.device
utilities.

The program uses AWeb's unique capability to interface HTML Forms and ARexx
scripts to provide an handy GUI in which type the various requests.

Installation and requirements
-----------------------------

WebUtils requires a version of AWeb with ARexx support. All versions (1.2b
demo, 1.x shareware, 2.x and 3.x commercial) have it, except the demos.

To install it just copy:

WebUtils.rexx
WebUtils.html

In the AWeb's Arexx directory. The script works ONLY from there!

If you are using registered or commercial version of AWeb, assign
WebUtils.rexx to a menu item (see AWeb manual).

WebUtils uses these AmiTCP commands:

amitcp:bin/finger
amitcp:bin/ping
amitcp:bin/traceroute
amitcp:bin/askhost
amitcp:bin/resolve
amitcp:bin/netstat.rexx

All commands are provided in standard AmiTCP 4.0demo distribution.

For PPP.device users:

amitcp:bin/pppinfo
amitcp:bin/pppstats

You can use all this stuff also with other TCP stacks, but you need to adjust
commands path in WebUtils.html (edit it only if you KNOW what are you doing
and don't spread new page but send it to me so I can include it in next
version of archive).

HTML Pages are designed to be viewed by AWeb 2.1 or better but can be used
also with older versions.

Utilization
-----------

After starting the script you'll see a page with some gadgets and input
fields.

General functions:

o Finger
insert @host or name@host and you'll get informations about it.

o Ping [number]
Insert host and (optional) number of pings.

o Traceroute
Insert host. You'll get the route from your system to it.

o AskHost
Insert an host and you'll get its IP.

o Resolve
  See askhost: the opposite :-)

o Execute
A little bonus: start DOS commands and see their output in AWeb!

o Netstat (this surely works only with AmiTCP!)
  Displays informations about current connections.

PPP.device functions:

o PPPInfo [unit]
Displays PPP.device informations about specified unit.

o PPPStats [unit]
Displays PPP.device connection statistics about specified unit.

Note that some functions (like traceroute) may took a little to be completed.
Anyway all is done in background and you'll see the output when complete.

You can start more than one command at the time.

Currently WebUtils supports a maximum output length of 65535 characters.
I can improve this if required.

NOTE: output is modified to be readable in an HTML Browser but it's NOT
converted in correct HTML. AWeb can display it because it's very tolerant
(even in "strict mode"). I use this feature for speeding up the execution.

If you want to have output saved as plain text you can use HTTX which is
included in commercial AWeb distribution and also available on my home page
(see below) or on Aminet (dir comm/www).
